Kaibaldi liivik

astrophotography

One of the weirdest places in Hiiumaa. In the middle of the island lies a sandy area. It looks like typical Estonian coastal line, but the sea is far away.

The Hiiumaa is least lightpolluted area in Estonia, so this island is really good for astrophotography.

Pilt on tehtud Hiiumaal kaibaldi liivikul aprillikuus. Hiiumaa on Eestis üks parimaid kohti linnutee pildistamiseks, kuna seal on valgusreostust kõige vähem. Tähed on seal eriti kirkad, kui võrrelda mandri Eestiga. Kahjuks nüüdseks on  öötaevas liiga hele, sest päevad on pikad. Eks tuleb linnutee pildistamisega oodata ja minna järgmine aasta tagasi, sest siis on linnutee kõige ilusam.

Üks vanem pilt. Tee paus linnutee all.

Night sky

Milky way season has started. I managed to find good place for photographing the night sky, it is about 80 km from Estonian biggest city Tallinn. There isn’t much light pollution, so probably I will return next time when possible.
The light pollution is the biggest enemy for photographers who want to photograph the night sky. It is so hard to find good spot where the sky is the darkest.
Couple weeks ago I read an National Geographic article about light pollution. The problem is so big, that more than 80 percent of the planet’s land areas and 99 percent of the population of the United States and Europe live under skies so blotted with man-made light that the Milky Way has become virtually invisible.
If nothing changes than maybe this is the last century when humans can see milky way or even stars. Who knows…

Linnutee hooaeg on alanud.

Noctilucent Clouds

Well actually I didn’t camp at beach because Noctilucent Clouds. I was hoping to photograph milky way.
I was sleeping in my 4×4 camper when, with no reason, I woke up and saw these beautiful clouds. I quickly put the clothes on and ran to the beach to photograph this beautiful moment. I stayed there for couple of hours. Just looking at those clouds. It was beautiful night.

Noctilucent clouds are composed of tiny crystals of water ice and exist at a height of about 76 to 85 km. They are most commonly observed in the summer months at latitudes between 50° and 70° north and south of the equator. Noctilucent clouds can not be predicted.

Tegelikult ei olnud plaanis helkivaid ööpilvi pildistada. Läksin mereäärde, et pildistada linnuteed. Parasjagu magasin autos, kuid mingil põhjusel ärkasin umbes tund enne äratust ülesse. Vaatasin välja, et on ehk juba piisavalt pime, kuid nägin hoopis helkivaid ööpilvi merekohal. Kogu tähelepanu koondus esialgsest plaanist kõrvale. Samas neid pilvi juba iga öö ei näe. Tasus minna
